Cheers Mike but there is no way to gain access to the boot from the rear seat would it be possible to take the rear number plate of and drill a hole through the boot lid as near as possible to the rod on the lock your thoughts on this please also a diagram of the rear boot from the inside so I know there to drill the hole many thanks Phil

Pretty sure that would be possible.

You'll be saying good bye to your boot lid and also your trim.

This happened to someone on the A8 forum - yours will likely be similar

Drilled behind the number plate gained access to the lock rod opened the boot after making a hole about 2"round once opened it appears that the locking system has a problem part of the vacuum system so disconnected that part and can now lock it manually the hole in the boot can be repaired and no one can see the repair as it's behind the number plate thanks again for your help Mike .

About right Mike s8 looks the same will not be putting it back as it was it will be better to leave it in a manual state at least I will not have to drill it again

Material used was alcantara and I'm very happy with the results.

MJ Interiors were a pleasure to deal with. I recommend them.
